  1. Does the Coconut shreds have to be from the inside of the coconut, or can we just buy raw coconut shreds or pieces

  2. Hi Denise! The 1/2 cup measurement is after the whole grain oats have been soaked. We would recommend using the filter basket to measure your ingredients following the 1/2 and 1 cup lines marked on the outside of the filter basket.

      1. Hi Jeri! For this specific recipe you will measure out about 1/4 cup whole grain oats before soaking. After soaking, they expand to measure about 1/2 cup. The coconut shreds do not need soaked.

  3. Does “whole grain oats” mean “oat groats”? Would love to see some consistency in the way “oats” are described in these recipes especially since the advice about soaking or not soaking seems to vary depending on the oats’ form. Thanks.

    1. Hi Kathy, we appreciate your feedback! Yes, whole grain oats are oat groats. Whole grain oats (oat groats) are the most intact and whole form of oats which is why we recommend soaking them before using to make milk. This will help get the most flavor and nutrition out of them as well.

  4. I have made this 2 times and it has a weird taste … at first I thought maybe I soaked the groats too long and maybe they went bad so I threw it all out. But, this time I timed it for 3 hours exactly and … same weird taste. The groats and syrup are brand new the coconut is not brand new, but not old. Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe groats have a different taste compared to rolled/steel cut oats I am used to?

  5. I always make sure to run the almondcow twice with two separate ingredient batches & with warm water. So far my milk had been coming out sooo creamy! My kids are used to the store bought plant milks but they gobble this right up!

    1. Ester, so are you saying you run it once with the recipe above and then empty thefilter basket and refill it with the same amount fresh and run it again in the same milk mixture

  6. If you wanted to add some flax seeds to get some omega 3, what is the ratio of flax seeds you would add to plain oats?

    1. Hi Heather! We recommend starting with 1 tablespoon of flax seeds/meal. Using a lot of flax can cause the milk to become slimy (as when soaking flax meal and water to make a flax egg).

    1. Hi David! If you are using matcha as the liquid in the base of the Almond Cow, we would recommend using the required amount listed on the directions for the matcha to fill the 5 cups required line in the base of the machine or if using the collector cup method.
